The cycle is key – our robot system for housing production

In today's world of automation, precision is just as important as efficiency. Proving just this is our latest project for a new customer: a robot system for housing production that enables the fully automatic filling of an injection moulding machine. This sophisticated project combines state-of-the-art technology, sophisticated control and perfectly harmonised processes.

The challenge

The task was quite clear, albeit anything but easy: a trouble-free, fully-automated process in which every component – from the raw material to the finished assembly of the injection moulding machine – works together in complete synchronisation.

Technical highlights of the system

  • The robot system we have developed consists of a number of highly complex modules that work together seamlessly:
  • raw material feed: the material is fed through a reel, which ensures a continuous supply;
  • precise punching: a press with an integrated power pack and mounting for the punching tool ensures precise and repeatable punching processes;
  • feeding unit with hopper and separator: this unit guarantees that each component is fed into the process individually, and correctly positioned;
  • handling robot with double gripper: two robots with double grippers handle the individual parts, ensuring fast and efficient further processing;
  • turntable with four nests: the turntable picks up the individual parts and transports them to the next process step – always in the correct position;
  • fully automatic loading of the injection moulding machine: this is where the final step takes place, when the parts are automatically inserted into the injection moulding machine;
  • complete machine control: the entire system is managed over a control panel developed by us, which is intuitive and powerful;
  • safety: a protective housing ensures that the entire process runs safely.

Perfect coordination of every component

What makes this system particularly challenging is the synchronisation of the individual components that is necessary. Only if each unit works in precise rhythm can the entire process run without disruption. A jam in the feed unit or inaccurate timing of the robots would severely disrupt the process. This is why it was crucial for our electrical hardware, PLC programming and robot programming experts to work closely together.

Success through collaboration

The implementation of this system was an exciting and successful project, which was made possible both by the close collaboration of our team and by the customer’s clear requirements.
